Oilers eliminate Flames with Game 5 win, advance to first West final in 16 years

The Edmonton Oilers eliminated their biggest rival with a 5-4 win over the Calgary Flames Thursday. The win moved the Oilers into the Western Conference Final for the first time since 2006.

Connor McDavid scored the winner in overtime to cap a game that featured wide swings of emotions from both sides. Leon Draisaitl had four assists in the game and both Oilers stars now have 26 points in 11 games.

The Oilers will play the winner of a second-round series between the Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues in the third round. The Avalanche lead that series 3-2 with Game 6 in St. Louis Friday.
