Oilers extend win streak to 15 games with victory over Blackhawks

It wasn’t easy, but the Edmonton Oilers survived a bit of a scare to keep their hopes alive for a league record win streak.

Connor McDavid had two goals and an assist and Calvin Pickard registered a 27-save shutout as the Oilers beat the lowly Chicago Blackhawks 3-0 for their 15th win in a row on Thursday at Rogers Place.

The Oilers are now two wins away from matching the NHL record of 17 victories in a row, held by the 1992-93 Pittsburgh Penguins.

Edmonton’s next game is Saturday against the visiting Nashville Predators. After that, the Oilers go on break until Feb. 6 when Edmonton is in Vegas to face the Golden Knights.

McDavid opened the scoring against Chicago in the second period before he set up Zach Hyman for an insurance goal early in the third. McDavid added an empty-netter to seal it

With the Oilers up 1-0, Pickard stopped MacKenzie Entwistle on a penalty shot.
