Tage Thompson broke a 2-2 tie early in the third to lift the Buffalo Sabres to a 3-2 win over the visiting Oilers on Monday.
The newly acquired Josh Norris beat Evan Bouchard to a puck and then fed Thompson, who made a sweet move to beat Stuart Skinner for his second goal of the night and 33rd of the year.
Buffalo, the worst team in the Eastern Conference, snapped a six-game losing streak with the win.
The Oilers remained four points behind the Pacific Division-leading Vegas Golden Knights with the loss.
Darnell Nurse and Bouchard scored for the Oilers, while Alex Tuch also scored for the Sabres.
The Oilers return to action Thursday against the New Jersey Devils.
