Oilers fall to Golden Knights to snap 16-game win streak

The Edmonton Oilers lost 3-1 to the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday, ending their franchise-best win streak at 16 games.

The Oilers fell one win short of tying the NHL record for longest win streak, which belongs to the 1992-93 Pittsburgh Penguins.

Chandler Stephenson scored the game-winning goal for the Golden Knights early in the third period, breaking a 1-1 tie. William Karlsson, who was playing in his first game since the Winter Classic, scored the empty net goal to seal the win.

The win pushed the Golden Knights seven points ahead of the Oilers for second in the Pacific Division but Edmonton still holds five games in hand.

The Oilers will have a chance to get back in the win column on Friday when they visit the Anaheim Ducks.
