The Edmonton Oilers will go with Stuart Skinner over Jack Campbell between the pipes for Game 5 against the Los Angeles Kings.
Skinner confirmed the move when speaking to media after the morning skate.
Skinner started the first four games of the series for the Oilers but was pulled from Sunday’s Game 4 after allowing three goals on 10 shots in the first period. Campbell then came in to start the second and steadied the ship, helping the Oilers come back from down 3-0 and 4-3 to pull off an improbable 5-4 overtime win and tie the series at two games apiece.
Campbell made 27 saves after entering the game, including a spectacular pad save on Viktor Arvidsson late in the game that kept the door open for the Oilers to tie the score and force overtime.
Woodcroft initially declined to reveal his starting goalie when asked by reporters on Monday saying he had two great choices and couldn’t go wrong picking either one.
Despite the Game 4 heroics, Campbell struggled to a 3.41 goals-against average and .888 save percentage this season in his first year on a five-year, $25-million contract. He ultimately lost the starting job to Skinner, who was an all-star this season and is expected to be a finalist for the Calder Trophy as Rookie of the Year.
Game 5 between the Oilers and Kings from Edmonton is Tuesday night at 9:30 p.m. ET/ 7:30 p.m. MT on Sportsnet and SN NOW.
