Seems 2-0 is the most dangerous lead in hockey — or at least in the Western Conference Final.
Fresh off blowing a 2-0 lead in a Game 3, the Edmonton Oilers rallied from a 2-0 deficit on Wednesday to beat the visiting Dallas Stars 5-2 and tie the series at 2-2.
The Oilers also coughed up a 2-0 lead in Game 1, but won on Connor McDavid’s double-overtime goal.
Mattias Janmark’s short-handed goal late in the second period put Edmonton up 3-2. Fifty-one seconds later, with the teams back at even strength, Leon Draisaitl doubled the lead, scoring off a nice feed from Zach Hyman.
Mattias Ekholm added an empty-netter for Edmonton’s final goal.
It was an awful start for the Oilers. Stuart Skinner allowed the first shot to beat him for the third time in the Stanley Cup Playoffs as Wyatt Johnston scored 58 seconds in.
Esa Lindell made it 2-0 before the game was six minutes old on a shot that appeared to deflect in off Oilers defenceman Darnell Nurse’s backside.
The Stars, meanwhile, lost key defenceman Chris Tanev, who exited with an apparent lower-body injury after blocking a shot by Evander Kane in the second period.
Game 5 is Friday in Dallas.
