Oilers’ streak of 34 straight penalty kills snapped by Panthers’ Rodrigues

The streak is finally over.

A miraculous run by the Edmonton Oilers‘ penalty-killing unit came to an end on Monday night in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final when Florida Panthers forward Evan Rodrigues scored with the man advantage in the third period to give the Panthers a 3-1 lead.

Prior to the Rodrigues goal, the Oilers had killed 34 straight penalties. The last goal they allowed down a man was in Game 3 of Round 2 against the Vancouver Canucks.

The Oilers were very close to making it 35 straight, as they were just six seconds away from killing a Leon Draisaitl roughing penalty before Anton Lundell found Rodrigues in front of the net, allowing him to tuck one by Stuart Skinner.

In a chippy game, the Oilers were able to kill off their first four penalties of the night but finally were beaten on the fifth.
