Oleksiak claims bronze in 200m freestyle for record sixth medal at Summer Games

Penny Oleksiak has made Canadian Olympic history.

The 21-year-old claimed bronze in Wednesday’s 200-metre freestyle race in Tokyo, giving her a record sixth medal for Canada at the Summer Games.

The Toronto native was previously tied with Rowing coxswain Lesley Thompson-Willie and runner Phil Edwards as the only other Canadians to win five total medals at the Summer Olympics.

Oleksiak now also sits alongside speed skater Cindy Klassen and speed skater/cyclist Clara Hughes with the most medals by a Canadian overall.
