After Canada impressed on the world stage in a 1-0 loss to Belgium, the men’s national team opened its second game with a bang.
Then they came back down to earth.
Canada failed to carry the momentum after Alphonso Davies’s electric goal 67 seconds into the team’s second game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup against Croatia.
Instead, the team let loose in the final 20 minutes of the half, allowing the 2018 finalists to come storming back to take a 2-1 lead.
For Canadian supporters, that’s a wide range of emotions for one half.
Now what could Canada do to right the ship? Some are calling for some changes to the midfield by taking off Canadian captain Atiba Hutchinson. The 39-year-old did not look up to speed in the opening half.
Instead, Herdman made surprising decisions at the half, opting to substitute midfielder Stephen Eustaquio and striker Cyle Larin for Ismael Kone and Jonathan Osorio.
