Player draft returns as Toronto 2024 NHL All-Star Weekend adds third day

NHL All-Star Weekend will be expanded to a three-day event Feb. 1-3 in Toronto with a player draft and a PWHL showcase highlighting the first night, the league announced Monday.

The Tim Hortons NHL All-Star Player Draft will take place on NHL All-Star Thursday on Feb. 1 at Scotiabank Arena.

A similar concept was used at the 2011, ’12 and ’15 all-star games.

The 2024 event will see the captains of the four-all-star teams paired with celebrity captains. They will select their teams from the remaining pool of all-star players.

A special guest will assign the final four all-stars.

A ceremony announcing the NHL Alumni Keith Magnuson Man of the Year will follow the draft. The Keith Magnuson Man of the Year is presented annually to a former NHL player who has applied the intangibles of perseverance, commitment and teamwork developed through the game into a successful post-career transition. The presentation will serve as a tribute to the Stanley Cup-winning 1966-67 Toronto Maple Leafs

Capping the night will be The Canadian Tire PWHL 3-on-3 Showcase, featuring elite players from the Professional Women’s Hockey League in a 3-on-3 game similar to those which take place at the NHL All-Star Game.

The NHL All-Star Skills presented by DraftKings Sportsbook goes on Feb. 2 with the Rogers/Honda NHL All-Star Game set for Feb. 3.

Tickets for NHL All-Star Thursday go on sale Dec. 5 through Ticketmaster.

The 2024 event marks the first alll-star game in Toronto since 2000.
