Purdy shines in first playoff start, leads 49ers to Wild Card win vs. Seahawks

Brock Purdy proved that his regular season performance was no fluke, leading the San Francisco 49ers to a 41-23 Super Wild Card Weekend victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday.

Purdy, the last overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft, looked like a seasoned vet on Saturday, completing 18-of-30 passes for 332 yards and three touchdowns. With the three scores, the Iowa State product has now thrown two-plus touchdowns in all seven of his starts since he replaced the injured Jimmy Garoppolo.

Purdy also ran one major in himself and became the youngest quarterback in NFL playoff history to throw two-plus scores and run for at least one.

Running back Christian McCaffrey was a huge support to his young signal caller, gashing the Seahawks for 119 yards on 15 carries, while also hauling in one of Purdy’s touchdown passes.

The 49ers remain the hottest team in the NFL, as dating back to the regular season they have now won 11 straight games. Their last loss came all the way back in Week 7 vs. the vaunted Kansas City Chiefs – the AFC’s No. 1 seed. The next closest win streak in the NFC is just two games.

The Seahawks were able to hang with the 49ers in the first half, actually taking a 17-16 lead into halftime before San Francisco blew the game wide open in the second half.

San Francisco is guaranteed a home game next weekend in the Divisional Round, but its opponent will be determined after the outcome of the remaining NFC Wild Card games.
