Rafael Nadal unstoppable en route to 14th French Open title

Rafael Nadal is the King of France once again, claiming his 14th French Open title on Sunday with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 straight-sets victory over Norwegian Casper Ruud at Roland Garros.

In the process, the 36-year-old Spaniard — whose birthday was Friday — become the oldest man to win in Paris, eclipsing Andres Gimeno, who was 34 when he won in 1972.

The win was Nadal’s 22nd Grand Slam title, which is two more than both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, the latter being ousted by Nadal in the quarter-finals this year.

It also made Nadal a perfect 14-0 in French Open finals, starting with Argentina’s Mariano Puerta in 2005, and including wins over the likes of Stan Wawrinka, Andy Murray, David Ferrer, and both Federer and Djokovic four times each, along the way.

More to come.
