Red Bull’s Max Verstappen captures second straight Canadian Grand Prix

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen won his second straight Canadian Grand Prix at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Sunday.

The Dutchman started from pole position and cruised to a 100th win for Red Bull and his 41st career victory, tying Ayrton Senna. Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin finished second while Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes took third place.

Williams driver Alexander Albon raised eyebrows all weekend, reaching the third round of qualifying and finishing seventh.

Montreal native Lance Stroll of Aston Martin finished ninth after starting 16th.

Alonso was able to regain second place from Hamilton after a slow start in the first lap.

A safety car in lap 12, forced by Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate George Russell hitting the wall, allowed Alonso to overtake Hamilton and regain second place. The veteran Spaniard held off Hamilton late in the race to retain his position.

Russell had to retire from the race in lap 55 with left-front brake issues.

More to come.
