The Detroit Red Wings have acquired goaltender Ville Husso from the St. Louis Blues for a third-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, the team announced Friday, just prior to the beginning of the second round.
Husso, a pending unrestricted free agent, has signed a three-year deal with the Red Wings after the trade, the team said. Detroit did not immediately disclose the terms of the agreement. However, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman has learned it will carry an average annual value of $4.75 million.
Originally drafted by the Blues in the fourth round, 94th overall, of the 2014 NHL Draft, Husso spent two seasons in St. Louis. Across 57 regular-season games, he posted a 34-13-7 record along with a 2.74 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage. Husso had a .919 save percentage in 40 games with the Blues this season, while also making seven playoff appearances.
With his acquisition and imminent signing, the dwindling off-season goaltending market shrinks even further.
