Lucas Raymond lit the lamp twice, including the game-winner, as he helped the Detroit Red Wings erase an early deficit against the Toronto Maple Leafs to pick up a 6-3 win for their first victory of the season on Saturday.
Raymond’s first of two goals on the night — and for the season — came off a wrister in the back half of the second period, evening the score after first-period goals from Calle Jarnkrok and Nicolas Roy gave the Maple Leafs the early advantage.
After the Atlantic Division rivals traded a pair of goals between the second and third periods — first Patrick Kane for Detroit, then Max Domi for Toronto — to keep things knotted at 3-3, Raymond once again found the back of the net for what ended up being the difference maker.
The Red Wings took advantage of an Oliver Ekman-Larsson tripping penalty, midway through the period, as Kane found Raymond with a cross-ice pass, which the Swedish forward buried — following a deflection — for his 100th career NHL goal.
Simon Edvinsson added an insurance marker for the Red Wings at the 18:12 mark, for his first goal of the season, before Andrew Copp shot in an empty-netter.
Detroit improved to 1-1-0 with the victory while handing Toronto (1-1-0) its first loss of the season.
The Maple Leafs won’t have to wait long for a chance at revenge as they’ll host the Red Wings on Monday.
