The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired left-handed slugger Corey Dickerson and right-handed reliever Adam Cimber from the Miami Marlins, MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reports.
In exchange, the Blue Jays are sending infielder Joe Panik and an unnamed pitching prospect back to Miami.
Craig Mish of MLB Network was first to report the Marlins had traded Dickerson to the Blue Jays.
This move gives the Blue Jays two things its roster has been lacking this season: depth power from the left-side and a solid relief option.
Dickerson, a former all-star and Gold Glove outfielder, is hitting slightly below his career averages this season, posting a line of .260/.321/.377 with two home runs and 12 doubles. He is currently on the injured list with a foot injury and on June 22 Marlins manager Don Mattingly said Dickerson would be in a walking boot for a minimum of three weeks. The 32-year-old is in the final year of a two-year, $17.5-million contract and will be a free agent after this season.
Cimber, who turns 31 later this summer, is in the middle of the most impressive season of his four-year career. In 33 appearances out of the bullpen, he has a career-low ERA of 2.88 while striking out 21, walking 11 and not allowing a home run.
Cimber has two years of arbitration eligibility before becoming a free agent after the 2023 season.
Panik, 30, has appeared in 83 games with the Blue Jays over the past two seasons as a left-handed infielder at both third base and second base. He’s hitting .246/.293/.351 with two home runs in 42 games this season.
The Blue Jays return to the field in Buffalo Tuesday night when they open a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners. Blue Jays Central will have full coverage of the trade beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET/ 3:30 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and SN Now with the game following at 7:07 p.m. ET/ 4:07 p.m. PT.
