Report: Brewers’ Adames wanted to meet Mets’ Winker in parking lot after squabble

Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames wasn’t backing down from his reported fighting words to New York Mets designated hitter Jesse Winker when questioned about them Thursday.

In an interview with Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Adames confirmed the lip-reading from Jomboy on a play in Tuesday’s first game of the National League wild-card series.

Winker and Adames were chirping with each other after a triple by the Met, prompting Adames to challenge Winker to meet him in the parking lot, according to Jomboy.

“I told him that when we were chirping at each other,” Adames told Heyman.

“I was there (in the lot),” Adames continued, but said Winker didn’t show up.

The Post reported Winker was upset about getting hit by a pitch by Milwaukee’s Frankie Montas in a regular-season game last Friday.

After the triple Tuesday, there appeared to be some hard feelings between the former teammates. Winker played for the Brewers last year.

“He just started yelling to me straight up,” Adames said. “In the heat of the moment, I’m not going to back down. So we were just chirping. I don’t know what he was mad about.”
