Ace right-hander Justin Verlander has signed a two-year, $86-million deal with the New York Mets, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
There is a vesting option on the third year of the deal.
Verlander won the AL Cy Young Award with the World Series champion Houston Astros last season. He went 18-4 with a 1.75 ERA.
The Mets’ deal with Verlander comes after the lost two-time NL Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom to the Texas Rangers in free agency last week.
Verlander, 39, is a three-time AL Cy Young winner and a nine-team all-star.
The move reunites him with top Mets starter Max Scherzer, a former teammate in Detroit.
