Report: Lakers’ James expected to miss several weeks due to ankle sprain

A modicum of good news for Los Angeles Lakers fans.

According to The Athletic‘s Shams Charania, LeBron James‘ absence due to a high right ankle sprain is initially expected to last several weeks, an injury that has a highly variable recovery time and can require extended periods on the sidelines.

The 36-year-old superstar, who was in the running for his fifth MVP, was hurt Saturday in the Lakers’ 99-94 loss to the Atlanta Hawks when he rolled his ankle under Solomon Hill, who was called for a foul as he reached awkwardly for a steal, during the second quarter.

Shortly after the game the defending NBA champions, who are already without All-NBA big man Anthony Davis, announced James was out indefinitely.

“Nothing angers and saddens me more than not being available to and for my teammates!” James tweeted afterward. “I’m hurt inside and out right now. The road back from recovery begins now. Back soon like I never left.”
