The Baltimore Orioles are recalling the No. 1 prospect in baseball, infielder Jackson Holliday, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Holliday has been on a tear to open the season in triple-A, slashing .333/.482/.595 through 10 games. He has also added five doubles, two home runs and nine RBI while walking more than he has struck out.
The Norfolk Tides, Baltimore’s triple-A affiliate, have been making headlines for their offensive performance to begin the season. They have hit 30 home runs, scored 102 runs and have a 1.062 OPS through their first 10 games.
However, they lost 5-2 on Tuesday night, with Holliday going 1-for-4 with a double and walk in the game.
Still just 20 years old, Holliday is ranked as the top prospect in MLB by Baseball America and MLB Pipeline. In 2023, he shot up through the Baltimore Orioles system, slashing .333/.442/.499 with 12 home runs and 24 stolen bases over four levels, ending the year in triple-A.
Holliday made a strong case to make Baltimore’s Opening Day roster in spring training, posting a .954 OPS with two home runs in 15 games.
The Orioles selected Holliday first overall in the 2022 MLB Draft. They had until April 11 to promote Holliday and be eligible for a prospect promotion pick at the end of the first round of the 2025 amateur draft. Recent examples of those picks being earned include Seattle’s Julio Rodríguez in 2022 and Baltimore’s Gunnar Henderson and Arizona’s Corbin Carroll last year.
