The Minnesota Wild and assistant general manager Chris O’Hearn have agreed to “mutually part ways,” The Athletic reported on Wednesday.
O’Hearn joined the Wild in 2019 under former general manager Paul Fenton to be the team’s director of hockey operations. He was promoted to work with current GM Bill Guerin to be the team’s chief contract negotiator and expert on all transactional and collective bargaining agreement issues.
As Michael Russo and and Joe Smith of The Athletic reported, the news came suddenly considering O’Hearn was the team’s front office representative on its four-game road trip.
In addition to Guerin, Minnesota now has Mat Sells, VP of hockey strategy, and assistant to the GM Mike Murray, who is also the general manager for the team’s AHL franchise in Iowa, on the front office staff.
