Reports: Red Sox, Aroldis Chapman agree to one-year deal

The Boston Red Sox have added some velocity to the bullpen.

Veteran closer Aroldis Chapman and the Red Sox have agreed to a one-year, $10.7-million contract, according to multiple reports on Tuesday.

Chapman, who will be 37 when the season opens, is third among active relievers with 335 career saves. He had 14 saves for the Pirates last season while making 68 bullpen appearances, recording 98 strikeouts and a 3.79 ERA.

Chapman has won two World Series titles, with the Cubs in 2016 and the Rangers in 2023. He has also pitched for the Reds, Yankees and Royals.

The Red Sox missed the playoffs for a third straight year in 2024 and were ranked 24th in the majors with a bullpen ERA of 4.39.
