Russia beat Sweden 4-3 in overtime at the world juniors Wednesday night, snapping Sweden’s historic 54-game win streak in round robin play.
Marat Khusnutdinov scored the winner with less than six seconds to play in the overtime frame.
The loss is Sweden’s first in the round robin since Dec. 31, 2006 when they fell to the USA 3-2 in overtime.
Russia finishes round robin play with a 2-1-1-0 record and has temporarily moved into first place in Group B, one point over the Sweden and two clear of the U.S. Sweden’s record now sits at 2-0-1-0 and has a meeting with the USA on Thursday to determine the final Group B standings.
