The American League Championship Series is tied at 2-2.
The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Seattle Mariners 8-2 in Game 4 on Thursday night, riding a strong start from Max Scherzer and some clutch hitting from Andrés Giménez to ensure the series will return to Rogers Centre.
Scherzer delivered 5.2 innings of two-run ball, striking out five in his best start since mid-August, giving the Blue Jays’ offence a chance to keep rolling.
It took a couple of innings, but Giménez’s second straight game with a two-run homer got the scoring started for Toronto, which plated runs in four different innings.
Giménez drove in two more with an eighth-inning RBI single, adding on some important insurance runs in the later innings.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. also homered, blasting his franchise record fifth big fly of this post-season in the seventh inning in what was another multi-hit game for Toronto’s first baseman.
Game 5 of the series goes Friday (Sportsnet, 6 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT) back at Seattle’s T-Mobile Park, when Game 1 starters Kevin Gausman and Bryce Miller will take the mound with a pivotal 3-2 advantage on the line.
More to come.
