Toronto Maple Leafs star centre Auston Matthews could play on Wednesday against the Edmonton Oilers after his COVID-19 PCR test came back negative on Tuesday.
Matthews did not practise on Monday or Tuesday after he had a rapid COVID test return a positive result.
The Leafs had as many as 14 players on the protocol list at one point last month, but all had been cleared at the start of the week.
Matthews previously contracted COVID in June of 2020 but was not touched by the rash of Omicron that ran through Toronto’s roster last month.
