Senators owner Eugene Melnyk passes away at age of 62

Long-time Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk passed away Monday after a lengthy illness. He was 62 years old.

“It is with great sadness that the family of Eugene Melnyk and the Ottawa Senators hockey organization announce his passing on March 28, 2022 after an illness he faced with determination and courage,” the team announced.

Melnyk, a Toronto native, purchased the Senators in 2003, at a time the franchise was facing bankruptcy.

More to come.
