The San Jose Sharks have placed Evander Kane on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract for “breach of his NHL Standard Player Contract and for violation of the AHL COVID-19 protocols,” the club announced Saturday.

Kane has three years remaining on his deal after this season at $7-million per. The Sharks signed him to a seven-year, $49-million deal in 2018.
At the start of the season, Kane was suspended 21 games for submitting a fake COVID-19 vaccination card upon returning to the Sharks for training camp. The Sharks then placed him on waivers on Nov. 28 as his suspension came to an end, which he cleared.
In five games with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda, Kane had eight points in five games.
The 30-year-old has been the subject of a number of other off-ice issues in recent months, including allegations of domestic assault by his estranged wife Anna Kane and counter-claims by Kane in court, allegations he bet on NHL games (which the league cleared him of), and filing for bankruptcy.
After Kane was initially placed on waivers back in November, his agent Dan Milstein said he and his client were looking at all options for his future in the NHL.
“We’re looking at all the options, working closely with the San Jose Sharks and other parties involved and hopefully there will be a resolution coming soon,” Milstein said in an interview on the Donnie & Dhali Show with Don Taylor and Rick Dhaliwal.
