Sheriff: Excessive speed caused Tiger Woods crash

Tiger Woods was driving nearly double the posted speed limit when he crashed an SUV outside Los Angeles on Feb. 23.

According to the sheriff for Los Angeles County, Alex Villanueva, Woods was driving over 80 m.p.h. in an area where the posted speed limit is 45 m.p.h. The details of the police’s investigation had not been previously released due to local privacy laws.

Woods suffered severe leg injuries in the crash, which required multiple surgeries, and is now recovering at home in Florida.
