So, You’re Going to a Coronation Party—Here Are 5 Low-Key Outfits to Consider

With the Coronation and its subsequent parties just around the corner, it’s time to start planning your outfit. Seeing as the celebrations kick off early in the day, you’ll want an ensemble which is stylish (that’s a given) but also comfortable enough to spend a large portion of the day in. I know this is a tall order, so I’ve stepped in to curate a selection of outfits that look polished but feel up to the task at hand.

First on my list is a dress the entire Who What Wear team have been eyeing of late—an easy throw-on midi from COS, which will look just as good with tan slider sandals as metallic heels. Speaking of metallic heels, why not use a pair to elevate a pretty jeans-and-white blouse combination.

If the weather allows, chances are a significant number of Coronation parties will spill out into the outdoors. This, however, is still Britain, so you best come prepared. Peppered throughout are classic over-up options—from tailored blazers to classic knitwear—which shouldn’t be overlooked and that you’ll be especially glad of if the weather turns.

Scroll on to see five stylish outfits that I hope will help you decide what to wear to a Coronation party and free up some of your time for more important things, such as perfecting your Pimm’s recipe or working out whether you prefer jam then cream or cream then jam on your celebratory Coronation scone.

Style Notes: Nothing takes less effort but makes as much of an impact as a volume-sleeve dress, and this COS style has best-seller written all over it. The navy hue pairs beautifully with tan accessories; add gold earrings for a lift.

Style Notes: What could be more synonymous with British style than a trench coat? Use yours as a solid layer this Coronation weekend; with a white blouse and jeans, you’ll be ready to party into the small hours (regardless of whether the weather plays ball).

Style Notes: Strike the perfect balance between looking sleek and staying warm with a slip-skirt-and-jumper combination. Any hue pairing will work, but I love how classic tones of cream, black and navy pair together in this combination.

Style Notes: Give a tailored two-piece set a low-key spin with a raffia clutch bag and chunky-sole sandals. You might just want to keep a leather jacket or something similar on standby, should a street party be on the agenda.

Style Notes: Red tones will give your outfit patriotic flair; take a printed mini dress, add on-trend trainers, and finish with a relaxed blazer and you’ve got a look that is casual but considered in equal measure.
