Sofia Richie's Elevated Capsule Wardrobe Consists of These 8 Easy Basics

If there was one celebrity who has captured and held our attention this year, it is undoubtedly Sofia Ritchie. After relatively low-key status over the last few years, it was her incredible bridal looks that catapulted her into icon status (and I’m still taking notes on her honeymoon wardrobe), but it’s what she’s worn since that has earned her a spot on the list of celebrity wardrobes really worth copying. Scroll through her Instagram and you’ll find her closet full of quiet luxury investment pieces, fun prints, and plenty of old Hollywood references, and even in her most casual off-duty looks you’re guaranteed to learn a trick or two when it comes to making basics feel cool.

So what else can we learn from Sofia Ritchie’s outfit history? Well, her stylist Liat Baruch has a knack for putting together well-curated, sophisticated looks that are surprisingly easy to replicate, and you don’t need to spend four figures to channel her brand of modern It girl. Thanks to the duo, we’ve swapped strappy sandals for closed-toe heels, invested in tweed, and reintroduced halternecks to our wardrobes—not bad for an unexpected street style hero.

And while we refresh our feeds in anticipation of what look she might step out in next, now is the perfect time to take tips from the Who What Wear cover star’s wardrobe to plan our looks for the season ahead. Looking back through her street style pictures and event outfits has brought to the surface some of the key pieces that she reliably wears on repeat, and I’m happy to say that they’re all incredibly easy to shop. So, if your future outfits could do with an A-list touch, keep scrolling for the eight pieces you’ll need to channel Sofia Richie’s brand of modern elegance. You won’t regret it.

Style Notes: We have to appreciate any celeb wardrobe that makes good use of casual basics, and Sofia is a pro at mixing basic tees, throw-on dresses and comfy leggings with tailoring and luxe accessories.

A strong contender for best white tee on the high street.

The kind of timeless, easy dress you can wear forever.

There are quite honestly 100 different ways to style a simple pair of black leggings.

I’d like one in every colour please.

Style Notes: Looking for the perfect balance of quiet luxury meets Gen-Z styling? Look no further than a tailored mini. Sofia’s blend of classic Chanel and a micro hemline makes stuffy tweed feel entirely fresh for 2023.

This would look good on its own, or with a black turtleneck underneath come autumn.

Beyond cute.

Business-meets-party.

This looks so much more expensive than it’s price tag.

Style Notes: One item that never seems to age is the classic long coat. Whether you opt for wool, vinyl, faux fur or trench, the long-line silhouette always manages to make even the most simple outfit feel polished, and you’ll often spot Sofia in a classic trench and dressed down denim or glossy leather.

You can never go wrong with a camel trench.

Understated chic.

I love the cute polka dot print.

Trust me, this deep shade of oxblood red goes with everything.

Style Notes: Transitional weather can be difficult to dress for, but when you’re stuck in-between a warm summer and a windy autumn, one piece that always delivers is a comfy knit dress. This one-piece-wonder requires no ironing and no fuss, and with dressy detailing like sweetheart necklines and one shoulder cuts, you can wear it for the day and into evening too.

This could so easily pass for designer.

Dress up with chunky sandals or dress up with barely-there heels.

Reformation dresses never miss.

Weekends call for comfortable knits like this.

Style Notes: Sorry skinnies, we’re fully devoted to loose leg jeans right now, and so is Sofia. Think straight-leg with an ultra high-waist and just the right amount of distress in the wash to look a little “lived in”.

Reiss have nailed it with this fit and colour.

These also come in white too.

And speaking of white denim, these baggy jeans look so chic in ecru.

Such an upgrade on spray-on skinnies.

Style Notes: Ask any fashion editor and we’d be inclined to agree, the boxy blazer always has a place in our capsule wardrobes. Thanks to brands like The Frankie Shop and Raey, you can now wear it with dresses, wide-leg trousers, maxi skirts and even leggings and prepare for compliments. This Instagrammable piece scores major style points.

I don’t know how but, this is currently in the sale, and still in stock. (Just).

This is really ups the volume.

I’m sold on the subtle check.

Wear with a cream maxi dress and gold jewellery.

Style Notes: Surprise! It’s another vintage classic made modern, and at this point I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve seen Sofia in a simple court shoe. Take a cursory scroll through her Instagram feed and you’ll see the closed toe shoe appear more than any other, a sure sign that the next big trend could likely be this retro throwback.

I can see these in Sofia’s wardrobe.

Yes, these really are from the high-street.

These come in 11 different colours. Bravo, LK Bennett.

Sheer perfection.

Style Notes: Every wardrobe needs an off-duty option for laidback weekends, and if she’s not in leggings, it’s likely you’ll catch Sofia in slouchy cargo pants. If you’d seen the Y2K trend resurface but weren’t sure how to make them feel “grown up” , take notes on this cable knit + cargo + trainers pairing.

Race you to the checkout.

I love this entire outfit.

The black colourway looks so cool.
