
Ontario’s two NHL teams are heading in opposite directions.
The Ottawa Senators extended their winning streak to six games with a big 4-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night at Scotiabank Arena.
The Leafs have now lost five of their last six games, allowing the Tampa Bay Lightning to pull into a tie with Toronto for second in the Atlantic Division. Ottawa, sitting in the first wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, is now four points back of the Leafs and Lightning.
Ottawa erased 1-0 and 2-1 deficits in a five-goal second period on Saturday. Claude Giroux scored the winner on the power play.
William Nylander and Auston Matthews scored for the Leafs, while Jake Sanderson and David Perron also scored for Ottawa in the second.
Michael Amadio added an empty-netter to seal it with 6.3 seconds left.
