Team Matthews tops Team McDavid to win $1M prize in NHL All-Star final

Auston Matthews scored twice and added an assist to lead his side to a 7-4 win over Team McDavid during Saturday’s final of the NHL All-Star Game in Toronto and banked the $1 million prize.

Clayton Keller opened the scoring for Team Matthews tapping a bouncing puck past Sergei Bobrovsky 2:19 into the opening frame.

Boone Jenner tied it just under three minutes later.

After Igor Shesterkin made a pair of clutch saves, Mitch Marner poked a loose puck past Bobrovsky at 7:11 to retake the lead for Team Matthews.

David Pastrnak knotted it up less than a minute later, however, Matthews reclaimed the lead for his side with his first of the game before Leon Draisaitl made it 3-3 — a flurry all in the span of 18 seconds.

Bobrovsky made a cross-crease save on a Marner one-timer at the halftime buzzer leading to the Maple Leafs forward playfully tossing his glove at the Panthers netminder.

It was all Team Matthews in the second half. Filip Forsberg fired a wrister past Connor Hellebuyck 1:06 into the period to give Team Matthews a 4-3 advantage.

Matthews added his second of the game with a one-timer from Keller to give his side a two-goal cushion and Alex DeBrincat added a late empty-netter.

Thomas Hertl scored Team McDavid’s lone goal of the period with 1:28 remaining, but Mathew Barzal reestablished the three-point gap for Team Matthews just 22 seconds later.

Earlier, Team Matthews topped Team Hughes 6-5 and Team McDavid edged Team MacKinnon 4-3 in a shootout to advance to the winner-take-all finale.
