TGL regular-season finale brings plenty of playoff implications

It’s the final week of the TGL regular season and three teams already locked up their spots in the playoffs – with the remaining three having a mathematical chance to get there, too.

Los Angeles Golf Club, The Bay Golf Club, and Atlanta Drive GC have all made it into the post-season. The former two squads are playing against each other Monday to determine the top team in the league.

In the evening match we see Boston Common Golf vs. New York Golf Club and some serious playoff implications as a classic Boston vs. New York rivalry reaches new ground.

Boston absolutely has to win if it wants any chance in having a run at the SoFi Cup, while a New York win does the same for that team.

    Broadcast Schedule

Here’s everything else you need to know from the penultimate day of the inaugural 2025 TGL season.

MATCH 13

Los Angeles Golf Club: Tommy Fleetwood, Collin Morikawa, Sahith Theegala (sitting: Justin Rose) vs. The Bay Golf Club: Min Woo Lee, Shane Lowry, Wyndham Clark (sitting: Ludvig Aberg)

NOTES

• This is the marquee TGL match of the season as it’s the top two teams in the league in the final week of the year to determine the No.1 seed heading into the playoffs – with both teams having already clinched a spot in the postseason.

• Tommy Fleetwood returns to action for LAGC after the squad signed Tony Finau to a one-match contract last week (both Fleetwood and Rose were unable to participate)

• Aberg sits for the second match in a row for The Bay, who sends out its identical lineup from last week

• LAGC has one the most holes this season (23) with The Bay one behind (22 holes won). The Bay does, however, have the lead in about a half-dozen key statistical categories

• Fleetwood and Lee are two of four TGL players to have hit every fairway so far this season. They tee off first for their teams and will play each other in singles

• Clark is undefeated in singles and is the only player in TGL with five wins in the format

MATCH 14

Boston Common Golf: Rory McIlroy, Keegan Bradley, Adam Scott (sitting: Hideki Matsuyama) vs. New York Golf Club: Xander Schauffele, Rickie Fowler, Cameron Young (sitting: Matt Fitzpatrick)

NOTES

• Xander Schauffele, the No.2-ranked golfer in the world, is making his second TGL appearance and his first since Match 1. Schauffele has been out for the last several weeks with an injury.

• Schauffele is set to also tee it up at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard on the PGA Tour this week – his first start since The Sentry, the first event of the 2025 schedule

• With a victory, New York will clinch the final playoff spot

• Boston can still secure a spot in the post-season with a win and some help from Atlanta Drive GC on Tuesday. Despite the collection of mathematical scenarios left for Boston, it really boils down to this: it’s must-win time.

• Boston has won 11 holes to New York’s 15. If Boston were to qualify for the playoffs, it needs to beat New York and pass them in holes-won.

HOW IT WORKS – VIA TGL

Modern Match Play

• Each hole has a value of 1 point and the team with the fewest shots on a hole wins the point.

• Ties are worth 0 points and there are no carryovers

• The Hammer (NEW) – Each hole is worth 1 point unless a team throws the Hammer. Each team will begin the match with three Hammers. Playing the Hammer raises the stakes of a hole by one point when played and accepted. Teams can only throw the Hammer once on a given hole but are otherwise free to use them at any point in the match to up the ante. The maximum number of points on offer per hole is now 3 (should each team throw a Hammer that is accepted by their opponent). The new rules mean each team will always get the opportunity to throw the Hammer during a match.

• The team with the most points wins the match

• Each match will be played until all 15 holes are completed, even if the match outcome has been decided. A team’s total number of holes won will be used as a tiebreaker in the SoFi Cup Standings at the end of the regular season.

Format/Sessions

• Sessions

• Within a match there will be two sessions played in two different formats

• Triples – 9 holes – Three players per team competing in an alternate-shot format.

• Singles– 6 holes– One-on-one, head-to-head competition for the entire hole. Each player from each team plays a total of two full holes during the session.

• Overtime – If the match is tied after 15 holes, the teams will play a best-of-three, closest-to-the-pin competition to decide the winner. This will be similar to penalty kicks in soccer.

• The hole location and orientation of the green will remain unchanged from the final/15th hole of the match.

• The shot distance will be between 25-50 yds and decided pre-match by our match official. All players will play from the same spot. The ball must finish on the putting surface to be eligible.

SoFi Cup Standings

• Similar to the NHL, TGL presented by SoFi will use a points-based system for the SoFi Cup Standings.

• For each match, teams can be awarded up to 2 points towards their regular-season total based on the following:

• Win in regulation = 2 points

• Win in overtime = 2 points

• Loss in overtime = 1 point

• Loss in regulation = 0 points
