If I had to be transported back to one decade, it would have to be the ‘70s—well, fashion-wise anyway. I should probably clarify that I mean the more tailored end of the ’70s spectrum as opposed to the full-blown boho aesthetic. (Although, I can concede to the odd maxi dress.) It’s all about the sharp lines, statement detailing and bold prints for me.
I can’t quite put my finger on it, but there’s something about the leg-lengthening effect of the flare and the rock ‘n’ roll swagger of a big collar that inexorably draws me in every time. I’m thinking Bianca and Mick Jagger in matching suits, Diana Ross and her glam get-ups, and even the odd appearance from a safari suit–clad royal. Yep, the ’70s really were packed full of all of the finest fashion inspo you could ever want.
Now more than ever, we should be looking to the past for future outfit ideas. After all, with glossy shoots on hold, why not take a chance to rummage in the archive? I certainly am. To save you time trawling through the endless depths of the internet, I’ve done a little digging and found five throwback pics that I love and am using to inspire my outfits this summer. From warm-weather gingham and kick-ass jumpsuits to safari co-ords and statement collars, scroll down to see what I found, and shop the look with my pre-loved edits.
