This week London Fashion Week has been reimagined, with small in person presentations and most shows and collections being shown digitally. Victoria Beckham was planning to host a small salon show for 15 people, however she cancelled this at the last minute saying that it no longer felt appropriate, instead sharing a video and images of the spring summer 2021 collection on her Instagram account today.
This collection was designed during lockdown, and is a tighter edit, with a total of twenty outfits, compared to the forty something shown last season. This streamlining has meant there is a focus on the core elements of the Victoria Beckham brand—throw-on beautiful dresses, elegant, classic tailoring and oversized shirts. Colour is used to add vibrancy, with pockets of lilacs, soft lemons and punchy greens, breaking up the classic colour palette of black, white, camel and navy. Victoria Beckham’s colour palette is apparently inspired by her own lockdown diet, as she told The Guardian that “a lot of the references are food-related because David’s been doing so much cooking”—these colours include “banana,” “creme brulee” and “hollandaise.”
What Victoria Beckham chooses to wear to take her bow on the runway has been just as documented as her collections over the years, and despite the lack of audience, we still have a glimpse of VB. She wore a pair of flared high-waisted jeans which skim the floor, hiding the height of her heels beneath. For spring she has added denim to her main collection, reflecting how our wardrobes have become more casual this year. Beckham said of her use of denim to The Guardian: “I lived in vintage jeans all the way through lockdown. Although I will have you know that I never once turned to an elasticated waist, except for in the gym.”
There is an ease to the collection, with a focus on loose, flowing silhouettes, softening workwear and tailoring. Beckham explained “Hemlines are longer, fits are easier, there’s a fluidity and ease. Really, it’s about a true wardrobe. This collection is rooted in reality – in life, and living. But it’s a dream inspired by reality.” Keep scrolling to see all the looks from the collection.
