These Are the 7 Bags That Say

For a while now, we’ve been witness to Spanish heritage brand Loewe’s growing influence in the fashion world. Since Brit Jonathan Anderson’s appointment as creative director in 2013, the whole line has become more and more covetable but especially the bags (oh, the bags!). He’s been credited for the revival of this luxury brand, which was originally founded in 1846 (yes, you read that right) and has been favoured by the likes of Sophia Loren and Marlene Dietrich over the years. Iconic, right? But it’s Anderson’s modern twists on classics that we’ve come to love. After all, his raffia logo totes are basically responsible for the basket-bag phenomenon that has been all over Instagram the past few summers.

However, it’s not just the basket bag that has won the hearts of those in the know—the understated elegance of Loewe’s buttery leather styles have also proven to be a runaway hit with the fashion crowd. These are grown-up bags—bags that say “I’m in the know.” They don’t shout like Gucci, and they aren’t as recognisable as Chloé, but they will last forever. The only hard bit about the decision to invest in a Loewe bag is choosing one. Keep scrolling for our guide to the best styles available now and to see who’s wearing them. Just don’t blame us when that credit card bill comes next month…

The Puzzle bag is quickly becoming the Loewe version of a Chanel 2.55—a timeless classic. You can see as you keep scrolling, it’s been a firm favourite for the street style set since its inception in 2015. The iconic shape is updated every season in new dreamy colour combinations, plus it’s probably the best-size handbag to ever exist.

Camille Charrière can regularly be seen toting a Loewe Puzzle.

Obviously, we love everything Ellie Delphine owns, but this bag tops the list.

This is Monikh Dale’s favourite, and we all know she has great taste. It’s perfectly sized to fit all your worldly belongings (e.g., a laptop, makeup bag, reusable water bottle and snacks). In the past, we’ve seen a lot of people using this as their carry-on, which makes sense. This summer, it’s going to be perfect for all those staycations we’ll be having.

Monikh takes her Cushion tote everywhere. We love the styling with a suede fringed jacket over her gym gear.

Further proof it looks good with everything.

The Lazo is one of the newer and most understated Loewe bags. With minimal design and no shouty logo, it’s the quality of the super-soft leather that makes this style stand out. This is Loewe’s hero shape for autumn/winter, so get ahead of the curve, and buy it now.

Lucy Williams’s burgundy style is a sleek change from the usual black and tan.

Match your Lazo to your mode of transport like Gala González did here.

Influencers wasted no time snapping up Loewe’s Postal upon its release a couple of years back and, well, posted it all over Instagram. We’d say this is simple but effective. It’s another understated style for those who have someone else around to carry all their stuff for them. According to the brand itself, this one’s “set to join the ranks as one of the house’s iconic bag designs.”

We love the sage-green mini style Erika Boldrin wore at Paris Fashion Week. To be fair, we love everything green at the moment.

This is another instantly recognisable Loewe design. The endless number of colour and size options available is incredibly dangerous to our bank balances, as we just keep adding new styles to our wish lists with every release. The current favourite? The new top-handle shape.

The Hammock style has proved ever popular due to the fact that you can wear it multiple ways: on the shoulder, handheld and crossbody. So that’s basically three bags in one, right? Its changing shape makes it really versatile, especially if you want to invest in one bag to rule them all.

Tiffany Hsu’s tan mini Hammock bag is outfit-finishing goals.

What Loewe bag round-up would be complete without the brand’s most accessible style? The basket raffia tote has become something of a status symbol of late, and with stock of it in short supply this summer, we suggest buying into it as soon as possible.

Francesca uses her basket bag to soften her otherwise all-black outfit.

Lorna styles her Loewe basket bag with a pair of jeans and a trench coat for classic appeal.
