These Statement Knitwear Pieces Are Perfect for 2020's

I can’t imagine that “party” will be the first word that comes to mind when we look back on 2020, but even in the depths of lockdown and with the constrictions of social distancing, it’s fair to say that we will find a way to celebrate the things in life that are worth celebrating—one way or another. So no, we might not be donning our finest frocks and hitting the town in towering heels, but worry not because the humble jumper is here to save the day in all its newly spangled glory. That’s right. It’s time to pimp your knit.

From Loewe to JW Anderson, we saw plenty of knits hitting the runway this season, and it was a celebration of sequinned necklines, embellished shoulders, bold buttons, and statement sleeves. Gone are the days of not wanting to “ruin your look” by having to wear a coat over your LBD. Now, you can stay ultracosy in your blinged-up knitwear yet still look ready for the party.

Perfect for both Zoom-based drinks and socially distanced meetups, the party knit can be dressed up and down, according to your needs. My favourite party jumpers are the ones that come feather trimmed. For example, just add Marques ‘ Almeida’s black ribbed knit to a pair of wide-leg black trousers and heeled boots for a supremely sophisticated look. For the magpies among us, there are also plenty of sequins, diamantes, and blinged-up buttons to sate your appetite. I love the idea of wearing Christopher Kane’s embellished button cardi with jeans and combat boots and then transitioning it for the evening with a slip dress and heels.  Ready to go?
