These Tops Go Nicely With Jeans for Those

As a self-confessed Francophile, I’ve studied the quintessence of Parisian fashion and have noticed that jeans-and-a-top combinations represent the essence of pared-back dressing. This is especially true for nights out—jeans, heels and a nice top are the perfect equation for fuss-free eveningwear.

You needn’t be in Paris to squeeze the most out of this outfit combination. Despite the rise in popularity of tailored trousers, jeans remain a firm staple in any capsule wardrobe. Therefore, having a wide variety of top-half options means we can extend the wear of our favourite pairs.

A special top can pull looks together and elevate a pair of jeans to new heights. When I envisage nice tops, my mind goes straight to contemporary designer Christopher Esber. His sophisticated designs have taken the fashion world by storm. I’m in awe of his recently released cropped shirt with an interlocked-hoop detail. The combination of resin with tailoring is the very definition of a “nice top.”

White tops with embroidered detailing look amazing with denim, particularly in the summer months when the airy voiles complement deep-indigo denim. Likewise, evenings are an opportunity to wear lighter textiles and silks that are soft to the touch. This season’s crochet knitwear also pairs well with denim, and I’m loving longer sleeves, which balance the effect of the open weaves.

I also consider classics part of my nice-top repertoire. Although high-neck vests are deemed casual, well-cut basics act as a foundation for outfits to be levelled up with blazers and jewellery. If you’re hoping to add a nice top to your collection, keep scrolling for the ones that have caught my attention lately.

The red accent goes well with indigo denim. Pair with strappy heels and a red lip for the evening.

Tuck into ecru jeans, add a belt and open the top button for a relaxed feel.

The ruching looks luxe, as does the pistachio colourway.

White denim and a red lip will complement the subtle blue tones.

The colour, the fit and the feel.

I enjoy a ruffle-sleeve blouse for day or night.

The style is becoming increasingly popular, yet there’s something timeless about it. Wear with high-waisted white jeans and gold accessories.

The halter-neck is a nod to Y2K, but with a grown-up motif.

I always gravitate to a puff sleeve. The multi-toned embroidery on this blouse is the sweetest detail.

Pared-back simplicity. I have a similar style I wear with jeans, ankle-tie heels and a beige blazer.

Crinkled plissé and exaggerated shoulders will bring intrigue to any outfit.

Bows needn’t be left for the back. With the front-tie detail, you can wear this top in many ways.

The back detail is so sweet.

A classic with a resin twist.

Here’s a subtle way to wear crochet. If in doubt, pop a shirt underneath and wear with high-waisted denim.

Tie the straps from back to front.

Wear with ecru denim for a neutral lover’s dream outfit.

The epitome of elevated basic.

One of my new favourite colours.

Wear with light denim and ankle-strap heels for a twist on denim and a shirt.

Exposed seams under the bust for extra detail.

This shirt was made for indigo denim.

This will look good with rich-tone accessories and deep denim.

This top does all of the talking.

Burnt sienna with a special tie-back detail. The darker the denim the better with this one.

Wear with a crisp white shirt underneath, statement earrings and straight-leg jeans.

The white stitching makes this top feel modern. Wear with high-waisted denim and tan heels.

The deep V and buttons add some interest to a classic style.

Day or night, there isn’t a more classic look than embroidered cotton with denim.

A top with a chic Parisian feel.

A wonderful way to incorporate Breton into the lighter months.

The perfect shirt for after dark with an adjustable-waist feature.

I’m always counting my lucky stars that nightwear is the new outerwear.

Both the top and dress version of this style are fashioned beautifully.

The detailing on this blouse is impressive. Also, the thicker straps will cover bra straps.

If you’re going somewhere extra fancy.
