If you’re one of the 259,000 people who follow Marianne Smyth of SmythSisters, you will already be aware of the fact that the influencer has impeccable style. Often seen in outfits that contain a mixture of tailored trousers, straight-leg jeans and effortless midi dresses, Marianne has minimalist style down to an art form. Her aesthetic is sleek yet elevated, and therefore it would be very reasonable to assume much of her closet is filled with designer brands. Surprisingly, though, many of Marianne’s best looks come directly from the high street.
Whether it be a timeless black midi dress from & Other Stories or a classic linen button-down courtesy of Mango, Marianne has a talent for spotting the most expensive-looking high-street staples. With this in mind, I decided to ask the influencer for a few tips on shopping the high street to ensure you come away with the most elevated-looking essentials.
Of course, her advice did not disappoint. “Less is definitely more when it comes to picking clothes on the high street,” Marianne explained. “I’ve learned over the years that I tire of loud prints. The high-street clothes that I do have for years are those items of earthy colour tones. That’s not to say that I don’t like colour, I do, and the key is to make sure the item you choose has a simple silhouette, a piece that can slot in with the rest of your wardrobe with minimal effort required.”
Marianne continued, “I’m definitely a chuck-on-a-pair-of-jeans-and-a-tee kind of girl, so I like to make sure my basics are of good quality. You can’t go wrong with a linen tee and a pair of Levi’s 501 jeans. If you stick to capsule wardrobe pieces on the high street, your options are endless.”
So there you have it, opt for clean lines, simple silhouettes and earthy colours, and you too could have the elevated, minimalist wardrobe others dream of. Keep scrolling to shop some of Marianne’s best high-street looks.
