This Marks and Spencer Striped Jumper Is an Instant Classic

Nothing makes me quite as excited or feel as fulfilled in my role as an editor as the discovery of an affordable item that could easily pass as designer. And this winter, this discovery comes courtesy of Marks and Spencer, the place I always turn to when I’m in need of something fresh that leans on the side of being classic.

Of course, M&S is known for creating some of the best knitwear on the high street—its cashmere department being a fashion-editor favourite. And upon scanning its new-in section this week, I saw a chic jumper with a very frugal price tag and thought to myself, “This is a little bit of me.”

The jumper in question features timeless black and white stripes, but unlike other styles on the market, this M&S knit showcases them in the vertical instead of the usual horizontal. It’s impactful without feeling too trend-led, so I know it’ll have staying power in my wardrobe.

As I thought about it more, I realised I’d seen it before. I follow influencer Yatri on Instagram for her elevated take on minimal dressing and her eye for premium-looking high-street pieces, so I should have guessed she’d have it in her winter rotation.

Its monochrome palette assures its versatility. Make like Yatri and pair with jeans and flat boots for an effortless everyday ensemble, or take the fancy route with a jewel-tone slip skirt and heeled knee boots. Give it a week, and I guarantee this will become the knit you reach for first.

Scroll on to shop Marks and Spencer’s stripe jumper. Then continue to see more of my favourite M&S knitwear for the season ahead.

A very cool take on striped knitwear.

A beautiful sunset palette.

A modern take on the classic cable-knit.

Who said sparkle had to be reserved for partywear?

I’m planning on wearing this with leggings and knee boots.

See what I mean about M&S cashmere?

This will look gorgeous worn with a camel coat or blazer.

Fun and festive (and also comes in a dark pink hue).

Borg textures really are taking over.

I’d like to re-create this entire look.
