‘Tomorrow I’ll be perfect’: Baseball world reacts after Bowden Francis loses no-hit bid

Just over 34 years ago, on Sept. 2, 1990, Dave Stieb became the first and only Blue Jay to pitch a no-hitter, keeping the Cleveland Indians off the board and finally accomplishing what had eluded him three times before.

Three times before that fateful day, Stieb had come inches away from the feat, getting into the ninth only to give up a hit to ruin his bid.

Well, welcome back Dave.

For the second time in his last four starts, Blue Jays righty Bowden Francis was nearly perfect, finishing three outs away from history before eventually giving up a home run to end his no-hit bid.

This time it came against the New York Mets, as NL MVP candidate Francisco Lindor proved why he’s competing with someone like Shohei Ohtani for awards, going deep to tie up the game at one run apiece and break up Francis’s big moment.

As soon as the ball went over the right field wall, comparisons between the seven-time all-star Stieb and the suddenly hot Francis started to fly on social media. Here are some of the best reactions to Bowden’s brush with history.
