USA’s Erin Jackson becomes first Black woman to win Olympic speedskating gold

  • 29-year-old slipped at trials but was given place by teammate
  • Japan’s Takagi and ROC’s Golikova win silver and bronze

Erin Jackson has become the first Black woman to win a speedskating medal at the Winter Olympics, and she did it with a gold.

Jackson won the 500m on Sunday with a time of 37.04 seconds, giving the American speedskating program its first medal of the Beijing Games and first individual medal since 2010.
