The memorial service for Dame Vivienne Westwood, often cited as the Mother of Punk, took place at Southwark Cathedral yesterday. Alongside friends and family, many celebrities attended to celebrate the life and influence of the designer and activist.
The impact of Vivienne Westwood upon the fashion world is indefinable. From the punk era that arose from political and economic unrest, the link between fashion and activism has always been intertwined in her work. Westwood’s designs have become recognisable through the play on British heritage, notably the use of tartan fabrications, Victoriana corsetry and deconstructed tailoring. These design traits, along with her brand’s iconic orb logo, were spotted on many of the attendees who took the opportunity to celebrate Westwood’s legacy in wearing her designs.
Here, we’ve highlighted the attendees outfits that exemplify the impact that Vivienne Westwood has, and will continue to have, over the fashion world.
