Yankees advance to World Series after Soto hits clutch homer in extras

For the first time in 15 years, the New York Yankees have won the American League pennant.

The Yankees completed a five-game series victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday night, claiming a come-from-behind 5-2 win in extra innings to punch their ticket to the World Series.

Juan Soto provided the heroics in the 10th inning, fouling off three straight pitches with two strikes before hitting the seventh pitch of the at-bat 402 feet out to centre for a three-run shot, giving the Yankees the lead for good.

Cleveland took a 2-0 lead through the fifth inning, thanks to RBI hits from Bo Naylor and Steven Kwan, but Giancarlo Stanton provided the Yankees’ answer, launching a two-run shot in the top of the sixth to even the score at two. It was Stanton’s fourth home run of the series and 16th overall post-season blast.

More to come.
