27 Outfits That Will Inspire You to Wear More Colour

In the first few weeks of lockdown, many of us lived in comfortable basics and stopped getting dressed properly. However many of us realised just how much clothes can impact your mood and make you feel ready for the day ahead, and so it’s unsurprising that after months of lockdown, many are now returning to the clothes that make them happy.

The one uplifting styling trick I keep seeing people turn to at the moment is experimenting with playful colour combinations. Influencer and art director Zeena Shah even started a movement called the #instarainbowchallenge—in which people wear jolly, vibrant outfits,

Colour can, however, be intimidating to many, and so to give you some ideas for how to wear bolder shades, here are some of our favourite vibrant outfits we’ve spotted over the past few months.

Style Notes: For a more subtle injection of colour, wear a knitted vest over a monochrome outfit.

Style Notes: A colourful buttoned up shirt looks amazing with denim shorts, and we particularly love the half tuck.

Style Notes: These bright blue trousers are a jolly alternative to jeans, and look amazing with bright orange.

Style Notes: A bright, zesty blazer always looks amazing over a white sun dress.

Style Notes: A bright pink dress is our favourite way to add colour to your wardrobe in 2021.

Style Notes: Add a pop of colour to a neutral outfit with a pair of brightly coloured trousers, like Yusra.

Style Notes: Pink and green should never be seen? This outfit shows that theory is total rubbish.

Style Notes: If you’re stuck for how to style colourful trousers, you can’t go wrong with a white shirt.

Style Notes: Just because you’re in your pj’s doesn’t mean you can’t play with colour. This pink Yolke silk set is as punchy as pj’s get.

Style Notes: Bright pink is the colour of 2021, and we love how Nina wears it head to toe.

Style Notes: Perhaps the easiest way to wear colour is to opt for a jolly printed midi dress.

Style Notes: Accessories are a great way to add colour, and these Arizona Love trekking Velcro sandals will liven up any outfit.

Style Notes: Playsuits and co-ords are an easy way to dip your toes into wearing colour, as you don’t have to think about what goes with what.

Style Notes: When it comes to wearing colour, sometimes it pays to mix up unexpected brights, such as this yellow, purple and blue combo. Now is a time to experiment.

Style Notes: If block colours aren’t your thing, layer up clashing prints, such as these paint-splattered jeans paired with a floral shirt.

Style Notes: Pink and green can never be seen, except… We love how Karo styles her Who What Wear collection pink jumpsuit with the lime-green bag.

Style Notes: Lime green is a trending hue, and this silky wrap dress shows that it can look classic too.

Style Notes: Bright colours can be a great way to mix things up, and clashing prints take it up a notch. We love how Lucy has mixed florals with animal prints.

Style Notes: Mix and match colourful tailored pieces, like this grassy green blazer paired with lime-green shorts.

Style Notes: Make a point of fruit-bowl dressing by wearing printed shirts with zesty prints.

Style Notes: If you’re a jeans-and–T-shirt kind of person, then the simplest way to inject some colour into your at-home outfits is to throw on a rainbow-coloured knit.

Style Notes: This is an outfit Harry Styles is a fan of. Wear a Peter Pan collared shirt over a bright knit.

Style Notes: Opt for loungewear in cheery colours like this buttercup yellow.

Style Notes: There really are no rules when it comes to wearing colours in 2021, as it’s all about clashes, such as red shoes paired with bright-pink dresses.

Style Notes: Neons have been popular for several seasons, and this softer green shows that fluoro shades can be surprisingly approachable.

Style Notes: One great way to wear colour is to stick to neutrals, and add one bright colour with a statement item—such as this tangerine knit.

Style Notes: When in doubt, stick to one colour head-to-toe.
