The start of the year is notoriously tough to get through for many reasons, not least the miserable weather. But the good news is you’ve made it! Sunshine is here, and I think I speak for us all when I say we’re ready to put grey days behind us and enter spring with a refreshed approach to our wardrobes and the year ahead. It may still feel a little chilly in the air now, but the weather is definitely warming up with bright days to make up for the cooler breeze.
With these changes comes an injection of new-season fashion to look forward to as well. Fresh drops are already arriving from both the high street and designers, which means a whole host of new inspo to get us excited about our outfits again. And since the days are starting to warm up, it means we can actually shed our puffer-coat layers and enjoy getting a bit more inventive with our style, too.
At this moment, there are three high-street brands, in particular, all of us on the Who What Wear UK team turn to first for inspiration and for the most exciting pieces to invest in for the coming months: Arket, & Other Stories and H&M. So to get you off on the right foot this month, I’ve combed their new-in collections and compiled 30 of the best May buys below.
You’ll find a mix of elevated wardrobe classics and some more joyful statement pieces, too. There are beautiful trench coats and perfect blue jeans—the building blocks of any successful spring wardrobe. And then there are some prints and pops of colour as well—because if there’s ever a time of year to introduce some brights into your life, it’s spring. Kermit green and sugary lilac seem to be the shades of choice right now, and they look particularly elevated in the form of tailoring. But honestly, anything goes this year. Call it dopamine dressing at its finest.
So whether you’re starting to think about what to wear to all those weddings you’ve been invited to (anyone else’s summer weekends totally booked up already?) or you’re just looking to up your basics game this year, keep scrolling and you’ll find inspiration for what to look out for in your own wardrobe right now as well as links to shop if you’re in the market for some refreshing updates for spring and beyond.
