6 Low-Key Top Trends Dominating This Season

Over the last few days, here in the UK we’ve got to experience my favourite kind of weather: crisp and fresh but with gorgeous bright sunshine. But with this type of weather comes the fashion-girl’s ultimate wardrobe dilemma: what do I wear when it’s cold but sunny? Thankfully, as a Fashion Editor and Stylist, as well as a cold weather enthusiast, I consider myself fully adept at solving this sartorial problem. The truth is, when you don’t know what to wear, you can always rely on a really great top and jeans. Low-key yet impressive and comfy but still stylish, a top and trouser look will always score your maximum style points without needing too much effort. And what’s not to love about that?

Dina wears a cut out top with ecru jeans and knee high boots.

Whether you pair a knitted top with jeans and chunky boots or a top with an interesting neckline with leather trousers and heels, there are endless combinations out there. But what are the styles you should be investing in this season? I’ve done the research for you and discovered the 6 styles that are dominating this season, having been spotted on influencers, celebs and editors a like. From striped polos for the weekend to cut-out and mesh for nights out, these are the top styles to look out for.

Style Notes: Striped collared or polo-style tops were so popular last year, and thankfully they’re back for autumn/winter 2022. Wear with blue, white and black denim or pair with leather trousers.

You can rely on classic stripes to add cool-french-girl vibe to any look.

The ultimate striped knit.

Available up to a size 18, this is one of the cutest tops we have spotted on the high street.

Style Notes: I just love a sweetheart neckline top for an easy evening look. Pair with flared jeans like Francesca for a cool 70s’ feel.

The open back detail on this top is just so sleek.

If you missed out on the this the first time round, now’s your chance to get your hands on it.

Sure it’s an investment piece, but it’s also a classic staple that will instantly take any outfit up a notch.

Style Notes: Statement cardigans are a fashion girl’s favourite when it comes to cosy yet chic looks for winter weekends. In my eyes, the brighter the better. So be sure to have some fun with this trend.

It’s the jazzy embellished buttons for me.

I just adore this colour combo of lilac and chocolate brown.

The oversized shape immediately makes this style look more expensive than it is.

Style Notes: Cut-out tops are another style that is definitely trending this season. Go for monochrome like Hannah and dress it up with statement accessories.

Reformation’s new-ins are really amazing right now.

The ribbed texture is key here, meaning that this top will forever hold its shape.

Mark my words this chic bodysuit will help you throw a effortlessly cool look together in no time.

Style Notes: Chances are you’ve spotted long-sleeve mesh tops on your Instagram feed recently. We’re loving them with a cropped or wide-leg jean and cowboy boot.

This semi sheer top is perfect for a party or date night.

The seam detail makes this look so much more expensive than it really is.

I love this painterly print and turtleneck shape. Wear layered under everything from denim shirts to sweater vests.

Style Notes: There will always be a place for classic, neutral knits but this season we’re seeing a resurgence of patterned, fair isle styles. These look particularly good with indigo denim or even cord trousers.

Be still my beating heart…this embroidered sweater is just divine.

I’ll wear this with denim and a lug soled boot for an easy weekend outfit.

This jumper is made from recycled polyester.
