While fall wardrobes historically lean neutral, with earth tones at the forefront—you know, espresso, sage green, burnt orange, that sort of thing—this year, chic Parisians have a different idea.

Sky Blue
Teals and cobalts are campaigning for color of the year. I’d like to submit Sky Blue for consideration. It’s the midpoint between the two, offering countless styling options. I personally like it in top form —Sabina Socol agrees. Whether you make it the focus of the outfit or an accent piece, there’s no denying the light, life-bringing effect sky blue brings to a fall outfit.
Ochre
Taking cues from the leaves in Parc Monceau in Paris’s 8th arrondissement, pale yellows and rich ochres are showing up in Parisian wardrobes. Not quite mustard or chartreuse, this unique shade of yellow looks best in suede or cashmere.
Charcoal Gray
A heather gray pleated skirt with a light-beige cardigan is how a French woman styles charcoal gray. Grounding like an absolute black, its slight blue and violet undertones make it a softer alternative. Find it in a pair of trousers; your autumn wardrobe will feel complete.
Raspberry
I’m partial to berry tones, so seeing French model Salomé Mory in a raspberry lace-trim slip confirmed my belief that magentas and plums were made for autumn. After all, it pairs well with the changing leaves.
Royal Purple
If you’ve been online lately, then you’ve likely seen the fashion set’s obvious affection for royal purple. This jewel-tone trend is backed by Parisians and F/W 26 runways at Celine, Balenciaga, and Chloé. While you may opt for a moody monochrome look, chic dressers have discovered that this shade of purple pairs well with unexpected hues, like sea green or fiery red.
Burgundy
Take note: Anne-Laure Mais contrasts the sophisticated red with a neutral color palette with a tan knee-length skirt, white T-shirt, and light-wash denim jacket. Whether it’s a Gucci Jackie 1961 or a TK, French women are looking to burgundy accents to transition their wardrobes into fall.
