7 Trends London's Coolest Dressers Are Wearing Right Now

Call me bias, but I firmly believe that the best street style looks of Fashion Month can always be found, and are inevitably snapped, at London Fashion Week. Okay, I’m being very bias, but there is something about the British capital that unlocks something very special in its showgoers, whether they reside here or are visiting with the runway in mind. The home of fashion rebellion, where punk and prim style influences often meet in the middle, the fits we see on the streets of London always break the mould and challenge any stubborn and outdated fashion “rules”. And this season was certainly no exception.

While the trends we witnessed on the runway are incredibly important, and will become a main focus for us in due course, in terms of influencing what we’ll wear for the next six months, we can find the answer in the real-life outfits spotted outside the shows. So, which trends are those in the know sporting right now? We’ve outlined them below, just for you.

From the colour that’s now taking over tailoring to the “old” shoe fashion people have fallen back in love with for autumn, scroll on to see the seven trends the London street style set is backing.

Style Notes: Pleated skirts were all over the autumn/winter 2022 runways back in February, and now, they’re all over the streets of London.

Style Notes: Worn with a leather jacket and bright accessories, the pleated miniskirt has never looked so fresh and current.

This elevated style also comes in black.

Checks will add to the preppy vibe that was so prevalent on the runway.

Style Notes: Leather is a recurring theme this autumn, with bikers, bombers and blazers in the fabric populating new-in sections across the board. Next up, you can expect it to transcend into coats, too.

Style Notes: You needn’t stick to black tones, either. In fact, we spotted countless coloured leather coats on the Fashion Week streets.

There’s only a handful of sizes left of this beauty.

This also comes in a classic black hue, as well as a chic baby blue.

Style Notes: Ballet flats never really go out of style, but they do ebb and flow in their popularity. Thanks to Miu Miu, however, right now, they couldn’t be more in-demand.

Style Notes: The general rule of thumb amongst London’s street style elite was to wear their ballet flats with socks. Oh, and the elastic straps? You’ll definitely want to invest in a pair with them.

So impossibly pretty.

M&S were quick to release this incredible affordable pair.

Style Notes: Thanks to Barbie and, well, the fact it always looks so pretty, pink continues to be one of the biggest colour trends of the year (and just about every other year in recent memory for that matter). Now, however, according to street stylers, the coolest way to wear it is by way of a suit.

Style Notes: Invest in a pair of wide, long trousers so you can tick off the puddle pant trend as you go.

Trust us, no one will believe this suit came from the high street.

Try pairing these trousers with ecru boots and a stripe knit for low-key styling.

Style Notes: Again, tartan never really goes out of style, but it has been taking a bit of a backseat to checkerboard of late. However, if these looks are any indication, the heritage check is about to have a major revival.

Style Notes: Stick to red and green tones for a more traditional feel, or look to more unexpected colourways for a directional approach.

This is fabulous!

Just add a black vest top and knee boots.

Style Notes: Trousers have never been quite so favoured as they are now, and while silhouettes have tended to err on the wide-leg side of things, we’re starting to see a shift toward more straight and tapered styles, which fashion people keep styling with pointed-toe boots.

Style Notes: Our shopping editor Remy Farrell makes a case for the easy combination with her sleek Fashion Week get-up.

You heard it here first—corduroy is back in a big way for autumn.

These also come in an equally versatile tan hue.

Style Notes: Another major trend that dominated the autumn/winter 2022 runways was leopard print, so we definitely expected to see it on the streets this time around. However, even we were surprised at the sheer number of leopard-print coats we spotted.

Style Notes: Worn with tailoring and button-down shirts, this is the most sophisticated way we’ve seen leopard print being worn in a long while.

This will look great with jeans and platform boots.

Who cares what you’re wearing underneath when your coat looks this good?
