76ers’ Joel Embiid suffers left knee injury in hard fall vs. Wizards

The Philadelphia 76ers say superstar Joel Embiid suffered a left knee injury after a hard fall on a third-quarter dunk during the team’s 127-101 win over the Washington Wizards on Friday.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports Embiid hyperextended the knee and will undergo an MRI.

After hammering home a dunk midway through the third quarter, Embiid landed on his left leg awkwardly, leading to the hyperextension. He immediately fell to the ground in pain, but was eventually able to get up and head back to the locker room under his own power despite a heavy limp.

Arguably the leading candidate for the MVP award to this point in the season, Embiid is averaging 30.2 points, 11.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists on 52.1 per cent shooting this season.

At the time of his departure from the game against Washington, he’d already racked up 23 points, seven rebounds and three assists in 20 minutes of action.
